JAMES piano. audition prep
I begrudgingly began playing the piano at the tender age of 5, only later to find that my parents WERE doing me a favor. I trained for 11 years playing for all occasions ranging from classical festivals, weddings, and accompanying singers. I began teaching students ages 6-12 during high school and continued accompanying through college at Belmont University. Since living in NY, I have worked with Unity Stage's Youth Theater Program and taught piano at The Singer's Forum. I now have a solid 15 years of teaching experiencing with various levels, age groups and musical styles. I teach from my home studio in Long Island City fully equipped with a keyboard and rambunctious twin sons . Who says music can't be adorable? Check out my reviews HERE

Omer Ashano began playing classical violin at the age of six where he studied under local teachers in the town where he grew up. Feeling discontent and overwhelmed by the Classical school and discipline, he decided to pursue his angsty rockstar fanatasies and at the age of 13
switched to guitar through which he got exposed to Blues, Jazz and the possibilities of improvisation. At the age of 15 Omer decided to take the skills and concepts he learned through guitar about improvisation and develop them on the Violin in addition to the explorations of
eclectic violin playing styles from Indian, Bluegrass, Celtic and Klezmer music. Continuing practicing both Jazz and Classical music, Omer was recruited to the Israeli military under the status of an "Outstanding Musician" given by the Israeli ministry of education. This status
allowed him to keep studying and pursuing his musical career during his military service and throughout that period Omer studied both in The Israeli Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv and also in the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. In 2014 Omer won the America-Israel
Cultural Foundation scholarship for Jazz performance and in 2018 graduated from The Newschool for Jazz and Contemporary Music with a B.F.A with honors. Omer is an emerging artist in the NYC Jazz scene whilst continuing to record and perform internationally with different bands and artists in Jazz, Rock, Folk and World Music scenes.
These days Omer has collaborated with a multi-cultural band including members from Burkina Faso, Venezuela and France, to initiate a musical project based mainly on Zimbabwean music and facilitating guitar styles from West Africa, South Africa and Cuba into Omer’s original compositions.
